Begun in the 3rd century BCE, Dujiangyan is recognized by UNESCO as a landmark of ancient science and water management. Its engineering logic is most rewarding with informed interpretation.
The forested mountain is closely associated with the origins and development of Taoism. Together with Dujiangyan, it forms a World Heritage property and offers a contemplative counterpoint to the city.
Seasonality
March to May and September to November usually provide comfortable conditions for city exploration and the mountain landscapes around Dujiangyan. Summers are humid and rainy; winters are cool, often overcast and atmospheric.
